Vishay's new high-power thin-film resistors reduce costs and save space

     VishayIntertechnology has announced the introduction of a new family of automotive grade thin-film resistors in the 0402, 0603 and 0805 form factors -MCS 0402HP, MCT 0603HP and MCU 0805HP - which have the highest power dissipation ratings in the industry. The VishayBeyschlagMCHP family of devices can be used in electronics in automotive, industrial and renewable energy applications with operating temperatures up to +175°C and a life-carrying drift of less than 0.2% after 1000 hours of operation at rated dissipation.

     The MCS 0402HP, MCT 0603HP, and MCU0805HP have rated power dissipation of up to 0.4W, which is twice that of standard thin-film resistors for the corresponding form factor and exceeds the power dissipation of the next largest form factor device. In this way, the designer can replace the larger device with a small size resistor, or replace multiple resistors of the same size, so as to save space, reduce the number of components, and reduce costs.

     These devices are AEC-Q200 certified with resistance values from 12 to 100 kω, TCR as low as +25ppm/K, and tolerances as low as t0.1 percent. The MCHP series has very good temperature cycle stability and excellent sulfur resistance certified by ASTMB809. The device is lead-free, RoHS compliant and suitable for machining on automatic patch assembly systems.

     The MCS0402HP, MCT 0603HP and MCU0805HP are excellent choices for modern electronics in most scenarios, where power dissipation, reliability, stability and reliable design are primary considerations. Typical applications include DC/DC converters, power supplies, motors and electronic control units, inverters, and test and measurement equipment.
