The new single-stage flyback controller is used for battery charging applications

     Infineon Technology has expanded its AC/DC controller ic products by releasing ICC80QSG single-stage PWM controller for flyback topology. The IC is developed for battery charger applications and can provide up to 130W of scalable power design - when optimized with CoolMOS P7 SJ mosfet. It is also an ideal choice for adapter, printer, PC, TV, set-top box, monitor and audio amplifier applications. IC provides QRMn.

     The IC provides an externally configurable brown-in and brown-out hysteresis to protect the main MOSFET. Even with less heat sinks, it will not overheat through input undervoltage and tight brown-in/brown-out hysteresis. The integrated circuit, together with a comprehensive set of protection functions, helps to provide a simple, safe and reliable AC/DC battery charger design for many applications.

     Its QRM operation has CCM prevention and valley switching DCM in medium and light load. By pairing this device with the CoolMOS P7 MOSFET device, high efficiency and low EMI can be achieved, thus saving the overall BOM: less heat sinks and coils may be required in the flyback design. In addition, for very light loads, the integrated burst mode function makes the power consumption of the whole standby mode very low.

     In addition, it provides a lower gate driver output voltage in burst mode, making it very suitable for low standby demand under light load or no-load conditions, and has excellent standby performance in the whole working range. The device realizes SSR method and excellent current control through battery charging. In order to obtain higher design flexibility, it includes adjustable timing mapping at valley change position to obtain the required maximum operating switching frequency, and adjustable maximum timing to limit input power and current, so as to provide safe operation under low line conditions.
