The new common mode choke provides superior performance in the same size

     Schaffner announces the launch of a new common mode choke for industrial applications. This throttle provides higher performance than previous versions while maintaining the same mechanical volume.

     Based on the nanocrystalline core technology, Schaffner's popular RT series will include RT8121, RT8131, RT8521 and RT8531. The new RT Series N achieves attenuation performance of up to 15 dB over its ferrite-based predecessor in the relevant bands of the EMC spectrum.

     RT Series N eliminates EMI problems directly on the PCB by filtering electromagnetic common mode noise on the grid side of electrical equipment. The choke has the same diameter as Schaffner's existing series at 65mm, but it will give designers more power while operating in narrow space constraints and reducing the need to use external EMC filters.

     The new chokes are rated for 25A to 63A at 60C and operate at voltages up to 600VAC and 450VDC, especially for 10MHz to 30MHz. Chokes ensure cost-effective PCB designs up to 100A with forced cooling and offer horizontal and vertical PCB mounting options to meet specific design needs. Other features include a wide range of inductance classes (3mH to 13mH), low leakage flux and superior winding insulation.

     The new common mode choke offers two - and three-wire configuration options for DC, two-wire AC and three-phase applications, which will be of particular interest to machine and electronics manufacturers with power requirements ranging from 10kW to 80kW. High-quality chokes are ideal for power supplies used in electric vehicle charging stations and robots, with a certified UL insulation system that can be easily customized.

     Other typical applications include photovoltaic inverters, converters, ups, SMPS, LED lighting, communications equipment, and medical/laboratory equipment. While not all applications require the additional power provided by the new RT Series N, designers can use chokes as a safety option to boost EMC levels in the event of a measurement failure.
