     Silicon Labs introduces a new family of Wireless Gecko modules for mesh networking applications, supporting best-in-class ZigBee and Thread software. Silicon Labs' new MGM111 module is the first in a full family of multi-protocol modules based on the Mighty Gecko system-on-chip (SoC) device. The MGM111 module is supported by Silicon Labs' reliable, secure and flexible mesh protocol stack and the industry's most advanced wireless software development tools. With built-in protocol stacks, antenna options and RF regulatory certification, this module helps developers reduce cost, complexity and time to market, making it ideal for mesh networking applications in smart homes and smart buildings, connected lighting, smart metering, security systems and other IoT platforms.

     The MGM111 module enables developers to quickly enter the IoT market, allowing them to quickly and easily bring mesh networking products to market with minimal engineering and certification costs. The Mighty Gecko module has similar technical features and application programming interfaces (apis) to wireless SoCs. This hardware and software compatibility makes it easy for developers to migrate from modules to SOCs, leveraging previous tool and software investments with little need for system redesign.

     The MGM111 module integrates the 2.4GHz Mighty Gecko SoC, high-efficiency chip antennas, oscillators, RF matching circuits, and shielding covers to form a complete, out-of-the-box mesh networking module that supports the ZigBee and Thread protocol stacks. This highly integrated modular design frees developers from complex RF/ antenna design and testing, allowing them to focus more on end-application design. The MGM111 module complies with the IEEE 802.15.4 standard used in the ZigBee and Thread protocol stacks and is pre-certified to the following regulatory requirements: FCC(North America), IC(Canada), CE(Europe), RCM(Australia/New Zealand), and KC(Korea).

     The MGM111 module comes in a compact 12.9mm x 15mm package and is compatible with the Silicon Labs BGM111 Blue Gecko module package and pin that supports Bluetooth Low Energy technology. This compatibility greatly reduces migration difficulties and enables developers to support multiple wireless protocols with a common, forward-thinking system design.

     The MGM111 module is powered by Silicon Labs' Simplicity Studio™ development platform, which integrates a complete suite of tools to accelerate the development and commissioning of IoT product design. Key Simplicity Studio tools include AppBuilder - enabling developers to easily configure Wireless applications while ensuring software reuse for all designs based on Wireless Gecko technology. Network Analyzer - Provides full visibility and debugging of wireless network activity using the module's packet tracking port; Energy Profiler - Helps developers minimize code execution energy consumption and extend battery life.
