STMicroelectronics' new Barron product makes antenna matching/filtering circuits nearly disappear

     ST introduces the Barron (also known as the "Balanced unbalance Converter ") that matches its S2-LP 868-927 MHZ low power RF transceiver. In applications that focus on product size and cost control, such as iot sensors, smart meters, alarms, remote controls, building automation and industrial control systems, the new product helps engineers save board space and overcome design challenges associated with RF circuits.

     The new BALF-SPI2-01D3 integrates all the impedance matching and filter components needed to connect the antenna to the S2-LP RF transceiver in a 3.26mm2 space, replacing the traditional matching circuit consisting of 16 discrete capacitors and inductors that cover up to 100mm2 of the board area. In contrast, the new product saves more than 96% of board space.

     In addition to saving space, board design is greatly simplified, eliminating the need for designers to choose device parameters or deal with cumbersome device layout challenges. Fully optimized for S2-LP product features, New Barron provides users with proven placement and connection recommendations that can be used directly by donkeys to significantly improve the performance of RF circuits.

     The BALF-SPI2-01D3 is the latest addition to ST's family of integrated Balan products. With a minimum package of 0.8mm2 and a reflow height of 0.56mm, this family of 16 products can be used with ST's sub-1 GHZ or Bluetooth low energy 2 24 GHZ RF transceivers and also support the market well.      As a key enabling technology for these highly integrated matching devices, ST's Integrated Passive Device (IPD) is based on a non-conductive glass substrate that significantly reduces RF signal loss, amplitude and phase imbalances, ultimately ensuring superior RF subsystem performance and longer device battery life.
