STMicroelectronics High voltage converters enable ultra-low power consumption for smart home and industrial power supplies

     STMicroelectronics has introduced VIPER01, a high-voltage power converter that enables designers to develop ultra-power, simple and cost-effective 5V output voltage switching power supplies (SMPS). Designed specifically for low-power power supplies in home appliances, building automation, motor control, industrial automation and consumer electronics, the new product VIPER01 can directly use the rectifier power supply, integrated PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation), Current control 800V avalanche power MOSFET and a variety of protection circuits. Given the iot nature of the hardware, which requires a long connection to the Internet or local area network, the power converter chip also offers an auxiliary power option to power the microcontroller of the iot hardware.

     The new device belongs to the VIPerPlusTM family of high-voltage converters, now in its second generation, using ST's unique BCD(bipolari-CMOS-DMOS) manufacturing process. BCD manufacturing process can integrate high performance PWM controller and high voltage logic level control transistor, protection circuit and diagnostic circuit in a single chip, and has little impact on the robustness and reliability of power transistors.

     With its extremely low power consumption and automatic switching to pulse frequency modulation mode under light load conditions, the VIPER01 enables designers to meet the world's most stringent energy efficiency standards . The new products can be used in flyback, buck, buck-boost and other topological power converters, while the internal high-voltage start circuit, sense-FET transistor, error amplifier, and oscillator with built-in frequency jitter circuit allow designers to design fully functional switching power supplies with only a few external components.
