ST is showcasing its iot development ecosystem and long-distance connectivity solutions at TECHNO-FRONTIER Japan 2017

     Spanning multiple electronics applications, STMicroelectronics, the world's leading semiconductor supplier, showcased its STM32 Open Development Environment (ODE) for developing iot hardware prototypes and LPWAN(Low Power Wide Area Internet of Things) Remote iot at TECHNO-FRONTIER 2017 in Japan Connect to RF solutions.

     The super practical and free STM32 ODE is a simple, fast and reliable way to develop and design iot hardware, regardless of the amount of development resources. The feature-rich STM32 development ecosystem includes a variety of STM32 Nucleo development boards and dozens of X-NUCLEO extension boards, as well as the easy-to-use STM32Cube software development tool with a large code base. Among them, the expansion board has a motion sensor, RF chip, NFC tag, motor driver, ranging sensor, MEMS microphone and so on. At TECHNO-FRONTIER Japan 2017, visitors can experience the STM32 open development environment at the ST booth and receive free Nucleo development boards and X-NUCLEO expansion boards. In addition, ST is highlighting the STM32 ODE Vertical application-specific feature pack, which makes it easy for developers to develop code for systems with cloud communications, networking, security and awareness.

     There are countless network nodes in iot that are used to detect the state of iot devices and manage these hardware. The distance between the node and the device is usually very large. Long-range, low-power wireless communication solutions play a key role in connecting hardware devices distributed throughout the Internet of Things. The ST TECHNO-FRONTIER 2017 exhibit integrates Semtech's LoRa® communication chip with the STM32 microcontroller to wirelessly transmit temperature, humidity and air pressure data from the node to the gateway. With a communication distance of up to 30km, LoRa technology is ideal for building large networks, suitable for smart meters, cargo tracking, animal management, remote high-risk data acquisition and other applications.

     In addition, ST introduced its latest sub-GHz transceiver (S2-LP), which is extremely energy efficient and allows iot devices to operate continuously for up to 10 years without the need for battery replacement. Ultra-low narrowband operation allows devices to efficiently use the radio spectrum, transmit data over long distances with low power signals, and have reliable communication connections, which are most suitable for alarm systems, security monitoring equipment, and long-distance wireless connections, such as sensors that connect directly to the cloud over long distances without the need for a local gateway. The new transceiver can also connect to the Sigfox global network, which is currently being promoted around the world, and is a cost-effective and energy-efficient communication solution.
