Qorvo launches new software development kit to accelerate smart home gateway development
Qorvo, a leading provider of RF solutions for mobile, infrastructure and aerospace and defense applications, announced the availability of the ZigBee 3.0 Software Development Kit (SDK). It is suitable for smart home gateways that integrate the new GP712 radio communication controller chip from GreenPeak Technologies(now Qorvo's low-power wireless business unit). Application developers can use the ZigBee 3.0 SDK to program GP712-equipped gateways to seamlessly communicate with the various sensors, controllers, and systems in today's smart home.
The ZigBee 3.0 SDK includes a simplified Software development model (API) that enables rapid development of GP712-equipped gateway products as part of a complete end-to-end system for the smart home. The SDK architecture is extremely scalable and flexible, allowing smooth integration with upcoming standards such as Thread. When used with GP712, the SDK allows gateway manufacturers to maintain protocol independence and support multiple communication stacks within a single device.
Cees Links, general manager of Qorvo's Low Power Wireless Business unit, said: "With our new SDK, application developers can quickly build the core feature of the integrated smart home - a ZigBee 3.0-enabled gateway. Gp712-equipped gateways serve as hubs for collecting and routing communication information between sensors, controllers and smartphone applications. Smart services with different communication standards, such as home monitoring, senior lifestyle, HVAC(heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and lighting, will still be around for some time. The SDK adds protocol intelligence to the gateway, enabling it to communicate simultaneously with different technologies, helping to ensure compatibility with current and future standards. We believe that this important complementary tool will help the smart home market continue to grow in a way that is fit for the future."
The GP712 radio communication controller chip, announced at CES2016, allows multiple smart home systems based on the IEEE 802.15.4 radio standard to optimally coexist, A single radio supports standards such as ZigBee 3.0, Thread, ZigBee RF4CE and ZigBee Green Power. True multi-channel support allows protocol stacks to communicate seamlessly across different channels.
