Power Integrations introduces the InnoSwitch-CE switching power Supply IC that improves efficiency and standby power performance

     Power Integrations, an industry leader in high-voltage integrated circuits dedicated to energy-efficient power conversion, has announced the InnoSwitch™-CE IC, a subfamily of the InnoSwitch family of constant voltage/constant displacement flyback switching ics. The InnoSwitch-CE IC is suitable for consumer electronics applications related to TEC regulations, which are important total energy consumption regulations recognized by the government.

     The InnoSwitch IC uses a magnetic-inductive coupling technology called FluxLink™, which was invented by Power Integrations to enable precise switching control of both primary and secondary MOSFETs without the need for unreliable optocouplers. This topology provides efficient synchronous rectification without the risk of simultaneous first-stage switching during dynamic loads or input surges, thereby increasing product reliability. The technology also has excellent cross-adjustment rates, often eliminating DC-DC converter circuits in multioutput designs, further increasing the efficiency of the power subsystem and reducing system costs.

     The InnoSwitch-CE IC can be used in adapters and chargers for smart mobile products as well as open power applications for set-top boxes, computer monitors and other consumer audio and video products and entertainment products. The InnoSwitch-CE IC consumes less than 10 mW no-load and is also extremely efficient across the entire power range, reducing energy consumption in low standby power or sleep mode, which is often critical to meeting challenging TEC regulations.

     The InnoSwitch-CE IC incorporates a 650 V MOSFET with precise input overvoltage/undervoltage monitoring to provide excellent input surge and voltage surge protection. The new device supports multiple output applications and has accurate external current detection.

Importantly, most of these products, such as set-top boxes and monitors, are always plugged into electrical outlets when not in use. Because the InnoSwitch-CE IC integrates a synchronous rectifier drive circuit and is highly efficient over the entire load range, including standby and idle modes, it is an important new option for designers facing the challenges of TEC requirements."

     Power supplies designed with InnoSwitch-CE exceed the ENERGY efficiency requirements of all international energy efficiency standards, such as ENERGY STAR, California Energy Commission standards, the European Union Code of Conduct (CoC) Version 5 Tier 2 standards, and the U.S. Department of Energy Standard (DoE 6). They are UL1577 and TUV (EN60950) safety certified in accordance with EN61000-4-8 (100 A/m) and EN61000-4-9 (1000 A/m) standards.
