Nexperia has announced two enhancements to its extensive Zener diode portfolio that eliminate undesirable overwing and noisy behavior - making Zener technology a significant advance. First, standard and automotive qualified models are offered in the new 50 μA-Zener series with a b option (Vz +/-2%) and Vz range from 1.8V to 51V. This makes them ideal for automotive applications, such as on-board chargers on electric vehicles, as well as a wide range of industrial and consumer applications, such as universal computing units, battery management systems, device chargers, and smartwatches.
Nexperia's new family of 50µA devices now offers full Zener functionality even at high voltages (up to 75 V). They are designed to eliminate noise and overfrequency phenomena, which are common features of many Zener diodes and have previously caused applications to fail. These devices are available in small packages, including SOT23, SOD323, SOD523, and SOD123F, as well as DFN1006BD-2 and DFN1006-2 with or without SWF. SWF offers significant advantages over devices without SWF, including highly reliable solder joint quality AOI and enhanced solder joint robustness, improved bonding to PCBS.
In addition, the company has addressed excessive and noise issues with its existing generic PZU zener family. This will give engineers greater flexibility for supply voltage stabilization and sensor or supply voltage comparison, as well as gate and avalanche breakdown protection for MOSFETs.
The PZU series is available in SOD323, SOD323F, SOT23, DFN1006BD-2 and DFN1006-2 (2.4V-51V) packages, as well as automotive and standard versions. It provides designers with a viable alternative for critical applications that require sharper Zener "knees" or where standard Zener may display noise and excessive behavior.
