New inrush current limiting PTC thermistor

     Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released a new line of inrush current limiting PTC thermistors. Vishay BCcomponents PTCEL High Energy series devices are designed to improve the performance of active charge and discharge circuits for automotive and industrial applications. Combining maximum energy handling capacity to 340J - five times higher than competing devices at high ambient temperatures - with a broad resistance range of 25C (R25) values and high voltage capability.

     Thermistors have R25 values from 150 ohms to 1.5 ohms, allowing for increased efficiency and a maximum voltage of 1200VDC. The device provides high energy processing capacity at higher ambient temperatures - 180J at 85 ° C and 130J at 105 ° C - enabling designers to save space and reduce costs using fewer circuit elements. With its high switching temperature and +105C operation, the series offers a heat capacity of 2.6J/K across all resistance values.

     The series of barium titanate thermistors consists of ceramic particles welded between two CCS tin wires and are coated with a high temperature silicone paint according to UL 94 V-0.
