Micron introduces the world's most advanced client SSD using 232 layers of NAND technology

     Micron Technology announced that it has shipped the Micron 2550 NVMe solid State drives (SSDS) for mainstream laptops and desktops to PC Original Equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers worldwide. The 2550 is the world's first client SSD with 200+ layer NAND technology. It outperforms its competitors in performance 1 by virtue of its advantages in storage density and power consumption. Its excellent responsiveness and low power performance can help users extend the battery life of both work and home PCS.

     The Micron 2550 SSD is available in 22x80mm, 22x42mm, and 22x30mm shape specifications, as well as 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacity options. A wealth of options gives system designers great flexibility to build PC products with different combinations of performance, size, weight, and capacity. "We expect PCIe 4.0 SSDS to remain the dominant product used in laptops and desktops in 2026," said Greg Wong, principal analyst at Forward Insights.      The Micron 2550 SSD improves application speed and responsiveness on major PC platforms, including gaming, consumer and business clients. Micron's innovative predictive cache optimization technology enhances the user experience and sets new category records in the PCMark® 10 2 benchmark test. Compared to its competitors, the 2550 SSD was 112% faster for file transfer, 67% faster for office apps, 57% faster for mainstream games, and 78% faster for content creation apps. The product also has top speed sequential read performance of up to 5GB per second and sequential write performance of 4GB per second, an increase of 43% and 33% over the previous generation SSD, respectively.

     Micron achieves energy savings through a variety of technologies, including optimizing entry and exit from bootup energy savings, using advanced process nodes in the controller, and replacing DRAM with host memory buffering (HMB) technology. These innovations enable devices to consume less than 2.5 milliwatts in sleep mode, less than 150 milliwatts in idle mode, and less than 5.5 watts in active mode. Reduced power consumption extends battery life to meet daily computing needs.
