Microchip's new cost-effective, low-power PIC MCUS extend battery life
Microchip Technology announces expansion of its low-power PIC? MCU (MCU) product portfolio. The new PIC24F "GB6" family, which includes up to 1 MB of flash memory and 32 KB of RAM with error correction codes (ECC), is Microchip's first 16-bit MCU device to offer such a large storage capacity. These new devices also have dual-partition flash memory with real-time updating capabilities that can be loaded with two separate software applications, allowing one partition to be programmed synchronously while the application code is executed. Combining these powerful features, the PIC24F "GB6" family of devices is ideal for industrial, computer, medical/fitness and portable applications that require long battery life, data transmission and storage without external memory, including power metering, HVAC control, fingerprint scanners and gaming.
"There has always been a huge demand for on-chip mass memory," said Joe Thomsen, vice president of Microchip's MCU16 division. With 1 MB of flash memory, our customers can eliminate the need for external memory, thereby reducing system costs. This new product family also offers dual-partitioned flash memory with real-time updates, which allows one part of the flash memory to perform tasks while the other part of the flash memory can perform code updates."
PIC24F "GB6" series MCU products operating current as low as 190? A/MHz, 3.2 in sleep mode? A. With the new product's firmware update capability, designers can update their applications in a reliable, secure, and cost-effective way.
These new devices come with a robust set of peripherals, including a 200-ksps 24-channel 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), up to 12 timers, six UART and a USB-OTG that can act as both a USB device and a USB host. The family also integrates Microchip's kernel-independent peripherals (CIPs), which operate independently without the need for a CPU; There is a configurable logic Unit (CLC) for real-time logic control and Direct Storage access (DMA) for faster throughput and lower power consumption.
