Microchip introduces two new digital enhanced power analog controllers

     Microchip Technology, a global leader in integrated SCM, mixed-signal, emulator and flash patented solutions, has announced two digitally enhanced power analog controllers designed for LED lighting applications. The new MCP19116 and MCP19117 devices help improve the accuracy of LED lighting, enabling users to precisely control the output intensity of LED light without sacrificing light color or light quality for reliable and durable applications.

     The two advantages of energy efficiency and service life have been driving LED applications. However, light quality remains one of the most important considerations in system design. Color, brightness and controllability are the key factors for the success of lighting products. Combining the functionality and performance of an analog controller with the flexibility of a digital interface, the MCP19116/7 is an intelligent Pulse width modulation (PWM) controller that is fully integrated with the PIC® MCU core, providing the highest levels of reliability, energy efficiency and light quality while providing cost savings to users. Its digital interface supports communication and configuration, allowing subsystems to report status or perform remote control. This feature is essential when adding lighting to many applications, especially those with high reliability in-vehicle devices and Internet of Things (IoT) remote access devices.

     In recent years, the market share and coverage of the LED lighting industry has been growing. A report released by Big Market Research in 2015 said that the LED lighting market is growing strongly and is expected to maintain an annual growth rate of 45% through 2020. At the same time, some analysts predict that the entire market size will exceed 63 billion US dollars in 2020. Industry analysts have basically made the same forecast for the development prospects of the LED lighting industry.
