Melexis introduces the second generation Triaxis motor position sensor

     Melexis has announced the launch of a second-generation motor position sensor (uncorker) based on its patented Triaxis Hall magnetic sensing technology. The new generation MLX90380 single-chip solution can be used to measure the absolute Angle of a motor and is suitable for all brushless motors including permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) and brushless direct current motors (BLDC). The electrification of the vehicle has spawned a growing number of related applications for which the MLX90380 provides the ideal solution.

     The sensor's 2us input signal sampling rate and 8us output signal refresh rate make it ideal for high-speed rotating motor applications such as automotive electric power steering (EPS) and superchargers. The MLX90380 provides a sine and cosine analog signal output proportional to VDD, supports a magnetic field strength operating environment of 10mT~70mT, and can be configured with magnetic fields in three directions XYZ. The MLX90380 is unique in that it can be installed at the end of the shaft or beside the shaft. By simply selecting the right product code and with the help of a ring magnet on the rotor shaft and a side-mounted MLX90380, designers can now measure rotor speed and position anywhere on the rotor shaft.

     The MLX90380 operates at -40C to +150 C, making it ideal for demanding applications such as industrial and automotive. The standard version is available in SOIC-8 small package, and the full redundant version is available in SOIC-16 package. For PCB-free applications such as directly mounted in motors, it is available in a DMP-4 package.

     The ISO26262 documentation can be used to support safety-critical automotive applications. The MLX90380 can be used in conjunction with the small driver ICMLX81310 or MLX81315 to drive the movement of the smart valve and detect its position for effective cooling of the battery or engine. It can also be used in conjunction with Milai Core's BLDC motor control ICMLX81205-06-07-08 to track the rotor position of the smart pump, thus providing effective dynamic control of the pump with appropriate torque.
