Melexis introduces new high-precision pressure sensors for harsh automotive applications
Melexis has announced the launch of a new high-precision pressure sensor, the MLX90818, which is particularly suitable for harsh media applications in the automotive sector. The new MLX90818 is a factory-calibrated absolute pressure sensor with a range from 1.0 to 5.5bar, ideal for applications in common naturally aspirated, direct fuel injection and turbocharged engines. This highly integrated sensor provides an external signal processing channel for NTC for temperature measurement in a small DFN package of 4mmx5mm. The MLX90818 is the smallest device to date and requires very few external components, making it easy for Oems to develop small, rugged intake manifold pressure (MAP) sensors.
As the only available component solution that does not expose corrodible metals, the device provides optimal compatibility with harsh media, especially for the high halogen concentrations found in smaller, lighter modern engines. The MLX90818 has an 18V overvoltage capability and can operate in a temperature range from -40C to +150° C, making it suitable for all in-hood applications.
The device achieves market-leading pressure accuracy of +0.5% to +0.75% over its entire lifetime at 150C, making it ideal for high-precision MAP and EGR sensors that help significantly reduce NOx pollution emissions as well as global warming CO2 emissions. The output of the MLX90818 is fully compliant with the J2716 single Side Half byte Transfer (SENT) protocol and can be easily and quickly configured to suit different customer needs. For MLX90818 deliveries, Mailai provides factory calibration; For small batch applications, customers can also configure the device through the application of pins using the proven software tools directly supplied by Melai.
