Maxim introduces isolated CAN transceivers to ensure reliable communication for industrial systems
Maxim announced the MAX14878, MAX14879 and MAX148802.75kV and 5kV series of isolated Controller Local Area Network (CAN) transceivers to help designers improve industrial communication reliability and system uptime.
Nowadays, CAN bus has been widely used in industrial fields. Workers face many challenges due to the need to integrate isolated and reliable interfaces to withstand the impact of noisy environments. In addition, there are risks such as transceiver input failure/short-circuited communication failure, the impact of electrostatic discharge (ESD) on system reliability, and high ground potential changes in industrial environments.
This series of high-speed transceivers integrates up to 5kV electrical isolation with fault protection and ±15kV human body mode (HBM)ESD protection to improve system uptime in harsh and noisy environments. The device operates at maximum CAN bus communication data rates of up to 1Mbps and the receiver input has +54V fault protection. The transceiver features an industry-standard pin arrangement in a wide-body 16-pin SOIC package, 8mm creepage distance and clearance, and operates in the -40°C to +125°C temperature range.
