Maxim introduces advanced battery management systems to help make future cars safer and smarter
Maxim announced the launch of the MAX1784312-channel, high-voltage, smart sensor data acquisition device to power vehicles with reliable communication, comprehensive diagnostics and low system costs OEM to enhance the safety of their lithium-ion battery packs.
Electric vehicles (EVs), hybrids, and plug-in hybrids rely on a large lithium-ion battery pack packed with hundreds or even thousands of batteries. With industry experts predicting that 25% of vehicles sold will have an electric engine by 2025, automotive Oems and Tier 1 suppliers need intelligent battery management systems to support reliable communications, highly secure, and low-cost solutions.
With the MAX17843 Battery Management System (BMS), Maxim is making the cars of the future safer and smarter. The MAX17843 meets the highest safety rating, ISO26262 and ASILD requirements (also applicable to ASILC). The device's differential universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART) uses capacitive isolation technology to reduce bill of materials (BOM) cost and failure rate (FIT). This enables designers to reduce the BOM cost of their isolation circuits by up to 90%.
UART is extremely flexible and supports reliable communication in multi-noise environments. The MAX17843 uses Maxim's unique Daisy chain architecture and Successive approximation Register (SAR) analog/digital converter (ADC) to enable fast, high-precision voltage measurement and provide excellent EMC performance. The devices are suitable for a variety of automotive and EV powertrain applications.
