Maxim 15W USB Type-C charger simplifies portable consumer product design
Maxim announced the introduction of the industry's first efficient, highly integrated 15WMAX14748USBType-C charging and charger inspection solution, which helps designers quickly and safely charge USBType-CTM portable devices with 2-section series lithium-ion battery packs in an easier and more efficient way. Current solutions on the market need to piece together different ics, the charger interview solves these cumbersome problems, designers only need to focus on how to take full advantage of the functional advantages of USBType-C in their design.
From wireless microphones to high-end cameras, VR headsets and even mobile medical devices, the USBType-C connector provides a simple solution for charging and transmitting multimedia data streams in a variety of applications. These applications are typically powered by 2 batteries in series, which also need to be recharged to provide sufficient power. To date, the development of USBType-C products powered by 2-section series battery packs has required multiple external discrete components, which not only increases bill of materials (BOM) costs, but also introduces additional points of failure in the circuit.
The MAX14748 integrates the charger, USBType-C charger detection, 28V overvoltage protection, and power supply circuit in a single chip, greatly simplifying the design. The highly integrated solution is compatible with traditional USBBC1.2 charging and other non-standard charging requirements, enabling the USBType-C to charge twice the power of the MicroUSB solution. Programmable Automatic Input Current Limiting (AICL) protects valuable end devices by making the most of the charging adapter's maximum current while ensuring safety.
With the MAX14748, Maxim will continue to expand its power related product portfolio to meet the unique needs of USBType-C applications. Existing products include the MAX7775624V input, 500mAbuck regulator, the MAX17205 stand-alone ModelGaugeTM m5 coulometer with SHA-256 safety certification, and the MAX20323CC pin overvoltage protector.
