Low DCR inductors for single - phase PoL and polyphase step-down converters
The PG2290, PGL6395 and PA5615 series of high current, low DCR inductors from Pulse Electronics, YAGEO, Inc., are combined for single-phase PoL and polyphase step-down converters, processors, memory modules for servers, data centers, network systems and graphics cards. fpga and ASICS power supply.
All three series use the latest high-frequency materials that reduce core losses, reduce DCR, and provide higher current ratings in different footprints, with the thinnest being only 4.6mm (Max) and 140 A Isat(Max). These polyphase step-down topologies distribute the current between multiple parallel paths with alternating on-off and on-off. By operating each phase in a staggered fashion, the ripple current of each phase tends to cancel out at the output, and the overall ripple current seen at the load is much smaller than the ripple per phase.
This approach allows for the use of smaller inductors (typically between 70nh and 320nh) and allows the design engineer to trade off the speed of the converter's response to changes in load current (transient response) against the stability of the control loop. By adjusting the number of phases used in the converter, designers have the flexibility to optimize the circuit for specific applications.
