Lattice ECP5 FPGas enable low power embedded vision systems at the edge of the network

     Lattice Semiconductor Corporation, a leading provider of customized intelligent interconnect solutions to the market, announced that its ECP5 FPGA solution has been used in intelligent monitoring and embedded vision applications at the network edge in the automotive sector. Lattice continues to strengthen its investment in the industrial and automotive markets, and the low-power, small-size ECP5 FPGA family enables CPU acceleration for license plate detection and image enhancement in intelligent traffic cameras. In addition, the ECP5 FPGA enables image stitching and 3D merging for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with a 360-degree surround field of view.

     Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), including traffic flow monitoring, traffic violation identification, smart parking and toll systems, are key components of future smart cities. Such systems often require intelligent traffic cameras to accurately detect multiple aspects of a vehicle's data, such as license plates in harsh environments, in order to perform video analysis at the edge of the network without sending the original video stream back to the cloud. The system typically uses at least four cameras mounted in different directions around the car to capture information about the vehicle's surroundings, generating a 360-degree view for driver assistance to help the driver park and maneuver at low speeds. The NEX-ADAS 360º 3D surround field monitoring technology from Shenzhen Moorechip combines images from four cameras to create an accurate, realistic 3D view of the vehicle's surroundings.
