     Xu Zhibin, Greater China market manager of ADI's Automotive Electronics Division, said that 24GHz and 77GHz radars have their own advantages, however, 77GHz will eventually become the mainstream of the automotive radar market in the future, because of its longer detection range and higher accuracy. In the past, 77GHz radar was limited by factors such as price and software calculation, so it will take some time for it to be fully used in cars. However, as technology continues to improve and costs gradually decline, 77GHz is expected to accelerate growth

     In response to this market development, ADI has partnered with Renesas to develop a new 77/79GHz radar sensor display unit. The new device combines two cutting-edge technologies, including the Renesas Autonomy platform's RH850/V1R-M microcontroller (MCU) and ADI's Drive360 advanced 28nm CMOS Radio Frequency in Place (RF-to-bit) technology. The seamless operation of the two technologies at the system level allows radar to detect smaller, faster moving objects earlier over longer distances, making automated driving safer; It also reduces the integration effort of radar systems, reducing evaluation risk for automotive Oems and frontline suppliers.

     ADI's Drive360 28nm CMOS radar technology platform is based on the company's existing portfolio of ADAS, MEMS and radar technologies. Based on the 28nm CMOS process, this automotive radar technology is suitable for target recognition and classification applications. Its high output power allows smaller objects to be identified in a wider range, and the lowest phase noise enables better determination detection of smaller objects in the presence of larger objects. The Renesas RH850 / V1R-M MCU is specifically designed for radar applications and includes optimized programmable digital signal processing technology and a dual CPU core running at 320 MHz.

     Chris Jacobs, general manager of ADAS and Automotive Safety at ADI, said the collaboration will be a key factor in enabling the development of high-performance radar systems. This innovative systems approach provides customers with system-level digital interoperability that significantly reduces risk and will result in better performance for ADAS and autonomous driving systems.

     Jean-Francois Chouteau, vice president of Renesas Electronics' Global ADAS Center, said radar sensors play an important role in all ADAS or autonomous driving functions. The partnership combines ADI's and ADI's technologies to enable Oems and Tier 1 suppliers to reduce development costs and time to market.
