Elmos introduces a new generation of contactless proximity detection and gesture recognition devices for the automotive class
Elmos, a German company, has announced the E909.21 integrated circuit for next-generation optical contactless proximity detection and gesture recognition devices in automobiles. Compared to previous solutions, the new device saves up to 40 percent in material costs and reduces installation area by up to 50 percent. The chip provides users with simple, fast and targeted solutions. In this system, gesture recognition and motion analysis based on simple infrared technology are processed in real time.
The IC offers optimal resistance to ambient light and automatic system calibration. The new IC can be scaled to accommodate all current and future in-vehicle display sizes and shapes. In order to simplify system and sensor design, the chip also integrates a number of important functions, which makes it suitable for plug and play solutions. Formerly known as E909.06, this IC has been in use for more than five years in a variety of model families from leading OEM automakers.
The IC is designed based on the HALIOS principle and its unique operation is based on true optical compensation. This allows for almost complete neutralization of diode parasitic effects on the signal receiver side, such as ambient light effects, and provides good temperature stability far beyond the capabilities of standalone devices. elmos leads the automotive contactless proximity detection and gesture sensor technology. elmos is the global market leader in the industry with approximately 30 million HALIOS ics sold since 2012.
The device features two receiver channels, four LED emission channels, and a special HALIOS compensation path. The IC integrates a 100mA current drive for each transmission channel. elmos tripled the sensitivity of the E909.21 analog front end compared to its predecessor, the E909.06. To eliminate interference with other optical systems, users can set the HALIOS switching frequency to 1 MHz.
The integrated 16-bit Harvard architecture CPU can run on a variable clock cycle of 4,8,12, or 24 MHz. The IC also integrates 32 KB flash memory, 4 KB SRAM, and 8 KB SysROM memory chips. The permissible temperature range is -40°C to +85°C. The IC E909.21 is packaged as QFN32L5.
