Commercialization of Murata's automotive chip multilayer ceramic capacitors for conductive adhesives
Electronic devices installed in harsh temperature environments, such as around the engine compartment of a car, need not only high reliability, but also high heat resistance. Murata, the world's leading manufacturer of electronic components, has successfully developed the GCB series of automotive chip multilayer ceramic capacitors dedicated to conductive adhesives that can operate at high temperatures of more than 150 ° C by using the advantages of ceramic resistance to high temperatures and developing new external electrodes.
In recent years, in order to improve safety and for environmental protection considerations, the rapid development of electronic control equipment for various functions in the automotive industry, the carrying rate of electronic equipment is increasing, and the electronic equipment carried in the engine compartment is more and more exposed to harsh high temperature environment. The temperature around components installed near heat sources such as IC sometimes exceeds 150 ° C, which poses a great challenge to the service life of components.
The conductive adhesive can alleviate the expansion and contraction of circuit boards and components caused by temperature changes, and has a long high-temperature cycle life. Murata used the high temperature resistance of ceramics, through the development of a new external electrode, successfully developed the chip multi-layer ceramic capacitor GCB series of products with a maximum operating temperature of 200℃, can be bonded with conductive adhesives, to meet the needs of high temperature environment circuit work.
Murata GCB series products use Ni/Pd for external electrode plating, becoming the world's first series of special products for conductive adhesives. This plating structure guarantees high bonding reliability with conductive adhesives, even at high temperatures. In addition, because the external electrode does not use Ag, it can greatly reduce the short circuit fault caused by Ag high temperature migration of the existing conductive adhesive special products (GCG series), and achieve higher heat resistance than the existing products.
After the GCB series products and the existing products (GCG series) are placed in a high temperature environment of 200℃, the resistance value between the terminal electrode and the ground is shown in Figure 3. As can be seen from the figure, although the connection resistance value continues to increase with the increase of placement time, compared with the existing products, the resistance value of the GCB series products developed by Murata has a smaller increase rate, so it has more excellent characteristics.
In addition to existing products that can handle the maximum operating temperature of 150 ° C, Murata has also commercialized products with a maximum operating temperature of 200 ° C. Both meet the required reliability test specification AEC-Q200(developed by the Automotive Electronics Council) for automotive components and are suitable for powertrains and safety equipment installed in high temperature environments in automobiles.
