Analog Devices introduces the industry's first intrinsically safe certified digital isolation product

     Analog Devices has announced the industry's only certified intrinsically safe (IS) digital isolator based on the IEC 60079-11:2011 standard. These 4-channel ADuM144x series digital isolators feature iCoupler  technology and are ideal for electrical equipment designs used in hazardous areas. Analog Devices' IS-certified digital isolators reduce the required printed circuit board space compared to traditional optocouplers, simplifying the design and reducing the number of devices and design complexity since it eliminates the need for multiple diodes and resistors.

     Compared to other protection methods, these IS-IS digital isolators also provide higher data rates, more efficient operation, and lower installation costs. In addition, these innovative digital isolators have ultra-low power consumption, limiting the amount of electrical energy required for isolation in hazardous areas. The ADuM144x four-channel digital isolation device is available in a small 16-pin QSOP (2.5kV) package and a 20-pin SSOP (3.75kV) package.

     With ADI's ADuM144x low-power 4-channel digital isolators based on proven iCoupler® technology, designers can decouple from the cost, size, power, performance and reliability constraints of optocouplers to achieve isolation in their designs. With more than 1.8 billion isolation channels shipped, these magnetic isolation products combine high-speed complementary metal-oxide semiconductors (CMOS) with monolithic air-core transformers for safety, reliability, and ease of use. The ADuM144x digital isolator offers power down to 2.25V, making it ideal for applications such as industrial field instrumentation. The new devices are intrinsically safe certified by CSA-Sira and IECEx, both global test and certification service providers.
