Analog Devices 16-channel, 12/16-bit digital-to-analog converters target telecommunication optical module control applications
Analog Devices, the world's leading provider of high-performance signal processing solutions, announced the availability of A pair of highly integrated 16-channel digital-to-analog (D/A) converters, the AD5767 and AD5766. With these two devices, the size of wireline telecommunications systems can be significantly reduced without compromising performance.
The 12-bit AD5767 and 16-bit AD5766 are fully integrated devices that provide the bias range required for coherent optical systems deployed in medium to long range fiber optic telecommunications. Both ics integrate a wide range of discrete components to provide the required voltage range and other system functions in a very small area. These digital-to-analog converters are ideal for implementing optical modules and optoelectronic conversion functions such as bias control, including Mach-Zehnder modulator bias control.
These converters are available in space-saving 4 x 4 mm WLCSP and 6 x 6 mm LFCSP packages. Using a user-supplied 2.5V reference voltage source, the converter provides a variety of unipolar or bipolar output voltages; These outputs can be adjusted from −20 V to +14 V. The output buffer can absorb or discharge up to 20 mA of current. When required, the digital-to-analog converter can apply low-frequency perturbations to these outputs, thus eliminating the need for an external circuit. Each channel of the 16 channels can be monitored as needed by the integrated output multiplexer.
The AD5766 is a pin-compatible and size-compatible device with exactly the same functionality as the AD5767, but the former offers 16-bit performance for applications requiring higher resolution. The AD5767 and AD5766 feature a multifunctional four-wire serial interface capable of operating at clock rates up to 50 MHz in write mode and are compatible with Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), QSPI™, MICROWIRE™ and DSP interface standards. These ics operate in the temperature range from -40 ° C to +105 ° C and have more diverse functions.
