Ams' new high-precision digital temperature sensor helps designers of cold storage equipment
Ams introduces the AS6200C, a digital temperature sensor IC that provides high precision measurements in the temperature range from 20°C to + 10°C. The operating temperature range of perishable goods storage equipment is generally within -20°C to 10°C, and the AS6200C has a measurement accuracy error of only ±0.2°C in this temperature range.
The sensor provides stable accuracy over the supply voltage range of 1.8 to 3.6 volts. In temperature control and temperature recording applications, the total error budget consists of multiple components. By minimizing errors in the measurement process, designers gain margin for other errors and sources of noise, such as heat generated by board components. The high accuracy of the AS6200C gives designers more flexibility to modify other elements of the system design while keeping the total error below the maximum specified level.
The AS6200C integrates the sensor front end, 12-bit analog-to-digital converter, and digital logic circuits in a small wafer-scale chip-size package (WL-CSP) that provides digital output to the main microcontroller through an I2C interface. The device offers on-chip digital signal processing, which means it requires no user calibration and its linearized output requires no compensation from an external microcontroller. The AS6200C can be used in equipment for storing and transporting food, medicine, flowers and other perishable goods, as well as in domestic and commercial refrigerators. Ideal for use as a data logger and compliant with EN12830:1999 Level 1, this new product expands AMS 'portfolio of small and accurate digital temperature sensor ics with the same high accuracy as the AS6200 sensor in the 0°C to 65°C range.
