Active rectifier controller with reverse protection

     Analog Devices announced the LT8672, Power byLinearTu's active rectifier controller with reverse input protection up to -40V. Its 3V to 42V input voltage capability is ideal for automotive applications with minimum input voltages as low as 3.0V and jettison transients as high as 40V, which must always be stable in cold start and stop-start situations.

     The LT8672 drives an external n-channel MOSFET with a 20mV differential pressure that reduces power consumption by 90% compared to Schottky diodes, eliminating the need for expensive heat sinks. The device's ultra-fast transient response enables it to meet stringent automotive applications that require AC input ripple rectification in the range of up to 100kHz. In addition, 20μA static current during operation and 3.5uA current during shutdown are ideal for always-on systems. The combination of the SOP-10 package and external MOSFETs ensures a compact solution that occupies the board area.

     The LT8672's solution provides a 3V minimum input capacity and a 20mV voltage drop, reducing the stress of minimum input voltage requirements in cold start and stop-start situations, providing simpler and more efficient circuits. If the input power supply fails or shorts out, the device can be quickly disconnected, minimizing reverse current transients.

     In addition, when the external MOSFETs are ready to receive load current, the power supply well-marked pin will signal. The LT8672EMS comes in an SOP-10 package. The industrial temperature grade version LT8672IMS is tested to operate in the operating junction temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. The LT8672HMS version has also been tested to operate in the operating junction temperature range of -40°C to 150°C.
