ADI announces the LTM4646 regulator with Power by Linear

     ADI announced the LTM4646 from Power byLinearM, a dual channel 10A or single channel 20A output, step-down μModule point-to-load regulator with a 5V or 12V input power rail. The LTM4646 includes inductors, MOSFETs, DC/DC controller, and support components in an 11.25mmx15mm x5.01mmBGA package. Compared to the previous two single-channel 10A output module solutions, the LTM4646 reduces the size of the solution by more than 25%. With its dual-channel regulator design, small package size and precise voltage regulation, the LTM4646 meets the PCB area limitations of high-density system boards and is capable of powering low voltage and high current devices such as FPGA.ASics, microprocessors and Gpus. Applications include PCIe boards, communications infrastructure, cloud-based systems, and medical, industrial, and test and measurement equipment.

     Ensure a total output voltage DC accuracy of ±1.5% over the entire voltage, load and temperature range (-40°C to 125°C). In addition, on-board remote detection amplifiers on both outputs compensate for voltage drops caused by large load currents due to PC board line impedance. The LTM4646 features optional internal or external feedback loop compensation, enabling users to optimize loop stability and transient performance while minimizing the number of output capacitors.

     Peak efficiency at 12VIN to 1.0VOUT conversion is 86%. With 200LFM airflow, the LTM4646 delivers a full 20A current continuously at ambient temperatures up to 85°C. The current mode architecture allows multiphase parallel operations to be performed to increase the output current with very superior current sharing capabilities.

     When used alone, the LTM4646 operates in an input range of 4.5V to 20V. When a 5V external bias is available, the device can operate on a 2.375V voltage supply. The output voltage can be adjusted from 0.6V to 5.5V, so the device can produce not only low voltages for digital devices, but also the 2.5V, 3.3V and 5V typically required for system bus voltages. The switching frequency can be set with a resistor in the range of 250kHz to 1.3MHz, and can be synchronized to an external clock in the frequency range of 300kHz to 1MHz for noise sensitive applications. In addition, the device has overvoltage and overcurrent protection.
