Vishay's new infrared receiver achieves the industry's thinnest record

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the launch of two new series of small infrared (IR) receiver modules -TSOP39xxxTR1 and TSOP59xxxTR1 - for remote control applications in flat panel TVS and displays, expanding its optoelectronics portfolio. To achieve front panel mounting within the 3mm frame of these products, the Vishay Semiconductors TSOP39xxxTR1 and TSOP59xxxTR1 family of devices are the first in the industry to feature the TVCastSMD side-viewing, surface-mount package with side wing with a height of only 2.6mm.

     In order to achieve remote control function on today's flat screen TV, it is usually necessary to use 3 optical devices, including infrared receiver, red LED and ambient light sensor. These devices must be installed in a very narrow frame, or through a light guide column, to achieve light connectivity from the back to the front, but will shorten the receiving distance of the infrared receiver. The TSOP39xxxTR1 and TSOP59xxxTR1 series are packaged in TVCastSMD and can be mounted on the PCB in a side-view arrangement, and the board can be mounted into the frame so that the receiver can be placed close to the front panel of the frame for excellent remote control performance.

     To simplify the design, the two devices released today combine a light detector, preamplifier circuit, and infrared filter in a 4-pin epoxy package. The infrared receiver uses a dual-lens design that enables high sensitivity and typical radiation amounts as low as 0.08mW/m2 and 0.20mW/m2, respectively. The supply voltage of the device is 2.5V ~ 5.5V, the supply current of the TSOP39xxxTR1 series is 0.35mA, the supply current of the TSOP59xxxTR1 series is 0.7mA, the longest transmission distance is 45 meters, and the carrier frequency is 36kHz ~ 56kHz.

     The TSOP39xxxTR1 and TSOP59xxxTR1 family of devices offer improved protection from ambient light, are insensitive to supply voltage changes and ripple noise, and are available in four automatic gain control (AGC) versions for short pulse coding and long pulse coding. All receivers comply with RoHS and Vishay green standards and are halogen-free.
