Texas Instruments has introduced a number of new current sensors to help engineers simplify designs and improve accuracy. Designed to operate over a wide range of common mode voltages and temperatures, these new products include a lower drift isolated Hall effect current sensor for high voltage systems and a current shunt monitor product line that eliminates the need for external shunt resistors for non-isolated voltage rails.

The new Hall Effect current sensor, the TMCS1123, offers industry-leading enhanced isolation and high precision across the entire life cycle and temperature range, simplifying design and delivering superior accuracy for high voltage systems. Texas Instruments' new EZShunt™ product family includes small fully integrated current shunt monitors and the industry's highly accurate 75A integrated shunt solution for non-isolated systems up to 85V and 75ARMS.

"When choosing a current detection solution, design engineers need to weigh four key factors: cost, size, accuracy and speed," said Jason Cole, business unit manager at Texas Instruments. These new products highlight how our broad range of inspection technologies can help systems better address design challenges. Taking TMCS1123 as an example, this device has the characteristics of high precision and low propagation delay. "With this device, designers can now use Hall-effect sensors in high-pressure systems that were not possible before, significantly reducing system cost and size."

Hall-effect current sensors are used to achieve fast and accurate control in high voltage systems

Highly accurate current measurements are increasingly needed in high-voltage systems such as electric vehicle chargers and photovoltaic inverters, but the high drift of Hall effect current sensors over their entire life cycle makes them often overlooked. The Hall effect current sensor TMCS1123 has a higher enhanced isolated operating voltage of 1,100VDC, a maximum sensitivity error of ±0.75%, a drift of 50ppm/°C over the entire temperature range, and a drift of ±0.5% over the entire life cycle. With the TMCS1123's high precision, designers can optimize system performance while simplifying designs. The device offers high accuracy and excellent stability throughout its life cycle, eliminating the need to recalibrate the device, thereby reducing costly and time-consuming maintenance efforts.

In addition, precise control of power conversion is essential to optimize system efficiency and protection. The TMCS1123 has a low propagation delay of 600ns and a bandwidth of 250kHz, enabling faster control loops while maintaining low noise, thereby increasing system efficiency.

EZShunt technology is used to simplify system design and reduce system size

Texas Instruments' new EZShunt current detection solution family simplifies design by eliminating the need for external shunt resistors. The new product family offers a fully integrated current detection solution that fits into a 1206 shunt resistor package, providing the value of a discrete solution with a simple single chip.

The EZShunt product line is cost-effective and highly accurate, with drifts as low as 25ppm/°C and offers a wide range of packages and shunt resistance values. The INA700 is a small integrated current shunt monitor that enables engineers to reduce the size of current detection solutions by up to 84%. The product family also includes the INA781, a 75A integrated shunt solution with high precision, capable of supporting common mode voltages up to 85V.
