STMicroelectronics introduces new Cartesio+ processors

     STMicroelectronics introduces Cartesio+, a new application processor with built-in GPS chip for the next generation of in-car and portable navigation systems. Combined with superior processing performance and precise positioning capabilities, as well as a wealth of integrated peripheral interfaces, ST's Cartesio+ enables cost - and space-efficient navigation and infotainment applications to enhance the user experience.

The second generation of Cartesio+ offers customers greater integration and performance while overcoming cost-sensitive application constraints."      The Cartesio+ system chip adopts ST's 55nm process, integrates powerful ARM1176 processor, embedded a GPS/Galileo positioning subsystem with enhanced indoor positioning sensitivity, and integrates advanced 3D graphics engine and a large number of peripheral interfaces. Includes multiple SD/MMC, CAN, and USB interfaces with integrated physical layer chips.

     ST has optimized the embedded graphics acceleration engine in Cartesio+ for 3D map content generation, using ST's patented anti-aliasing graphics processing technology to soften the jagged edges of digital images, making them smooth and legible, and without affecting processor performance. Cartesio+ also integrates an auxiliary device video input port and a hardware JPEG decoder, the former can be used to connect the rearview camera, the driver can park more safely; The latter allows users to quickly view pictures without taking up the main processor resources of the chip.

     Cartesio+ offers advanced power management capabilities based on "power island" technology, where different areas on the chip operate at different voltages. For portable applications, Cartesio+ dynamically adjusts the kernel frequency to improve battery life.

     To support customer designs, ST offers a complete set of cost-optimized portable navigation development tools. With Cartesio+ at its core, the tool integrates the STA5630, an advanced GPS RF chip with a built-in low noise amplifier, as well as three key components from ST's portfolio: the power management chip STW4210, an audio processing amplifier /LED display driver, and the Bluetooth controller STA2500D.

     With ST's world-class expertise in automotive technology and applications, the new Cartesio+ processors meet the specific and stringent quality and reliability requirements of the automotive market. The Cartesio+ is scalable and is divided into two models, STA2064 and STA2065, which are suitable for different applications where material costs are sensitive and performance is important.
