Renesas Electronics has announced the world's first Wi-SUN compliant home networking standard

     Renesas Electronics Corporation announced the release of two new sub-gigahertz wireless communications solutions for Wi-SUN powered devices, the world's first to include automatic dual-address filtering that will reduce the time required to develop home energy management systems (HEMS), smart meters and other devices.

     At the heart of these solutions is the RAA604S00 wireless communication system-on-chip (SoC), a single-chip design that enables communication with both smart meters, which are essential in HEMS devices, and other home devices. The first Wi-SUN wireless solution uses a RAA604S00 wireless communication SoC equipped with an efficient RX63N 32-bit microcontroller (MCU). The second Wi-SUN wireless solution uses a RAA604S00 SoC with a low-power RL78/G1H 16-bit MCU.

     Development environments are also provided, including by Tessera Technology Inc. The evaluation board and Renesas communication control software are provided. This is the world's first solution that combines an evaluation board equipped with an RX63N MCU with communication control software for a Home LAN (HAN) Certified Test Platform Unit (CTBU)(Note 1) defined by the Wi-SUN Alliance (Note 2). These solutions enable system manufacturers to ensure interconnection with all third-party devices to quickly and reliably develop Wi-SUN compliant HEMS products.

     The new Wi-SUN compliant RAA604S00 wireless communication SoC and the Wi-SUN compliant RL78/G1H MCU integrated with RAA604S00, Both support sub-gigahertz band wireless communication in regions using different frequency bands (such as Europe, North America and ASEAN countries) by changing the Settings of the wireless communication module.
