New high performance low voltage differential regulator according to the Automotive Electronics AEC-Q100 standard
Micrel, the industry leader in high-performance linear and power solutions, local area networks, and clock management and communications solutions, introduces a new high-performance low-voltage differential regulator (LDO) compliant with the automotive electronics AEC-Q100 standard, with an ultra-low pressure differential of just 100 millivolts at 300 mA. The MAQ5300 comes in a small DFN package of 2 mm x2 mm and is ideally suited for space-constrained, high-stability applications in automotive and industrial applications that are often subject to harsh environments and temperature impacts. The MAQ5300 is now in mass production, with prices starting at $0.39 per thousand.
Brian Hedayati, vice president of high performance linear and Power solutions marketing at Micrel, said: "As the connected car continues to evolve, driving an increase in the number of sensors in the vehicle, so does the need for smaller power solutions. "The MAQ5300 provides the perfect solution for demanding applications with minimal PCB board sizes, including the rapidly growing market for front/rear/side view camera modules and image sensors."
Front/rear/side view camera modules and image sensors are an important part of connected cars. The U.S. Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) is requiring all new passenger cars and some commercial vehicles to meet new rear-view visibility standards by May 2018. According to a U.S. government report, reversing accidents in the United States, including light vehicles, typically result in 210 deaths and 15,000 injuries each year, and the victims are often children and the elderly.
The MAQ5300 is fully compliant with AEC-Q100 quality specifications and is supported by the necessary data for compliance with the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). The unit guarantees 300 mA output current and is available in a variety of fixed output voltages of 1.5 volts, 1.8 volts, 2.5 volts, 2.8 volts, 2.85 volts, 3.0 volts and 3.3 volts. Other features include output voltage accuracy +2%, low shutdown static current 0.1 microamps, overheat shutdown and current limit protection. The solution comes in a small 6-pin DFN package of 2 mm x2 mm.
