Microchip introduces the DSC6000 series MEMS oscillator, the industry's smallest package and ultra-low power technology

     Microchip Technology has announced the DSC6000 series of microelectromechanical system (MEMS) oscillators. This new product family represents the industry's best-in-class technology, with the smallest MEMS MHz oscillators in the industry, the lowest power consumption in the industry, and the freedom to choose frequencies from 2 KHz to 100 MHz.

     Devices such as wearables and Internet of Things (IoT) devices are demanding in terms of small size, low power consumption and long-term reliability, and the DSC6000 MEMS oscillator family is an excellent choice to serve as the benchmark clock for these small battery-powered devices. The new device also meets the AEC-Q100 standard set by the Automotive Electronics Council and meets the stringent requirements for mechanical durability and reliability, making it ideal for a variety of engine room applications.

     Available in a variety of sizes, including the industry standard 4-pin DFN package, Microchip's DSC6000 series of oscillators can be as small as 1.6 x 1.2 mm and as large as 7 x 5 mm, and operate at a current of only 1.3 mA(typical) - compared to the lowest power quartz oscillator. Its current consumption is less than half that of the latter. The new device has a maximum operating temperature range of -40 ° C to +85 ° C, with a maximum drift of +/-25 ppm over this range. Compared to quartz oscillators, they can withstand up to 500 more shocks and up to 5 times more vibration, ensuring rock-solid stability in most operating environments.

     Microchip's ClockWorks online configuration tool allows designers to easily select the most suitable oscillator based on frequency, package size, ppm, and temperature range, and request a free sample of that oscillator. In addition, designers can use the TimeFlash field programming toolkit to burn disposable programmable (OTP) memory in blank DSC6000 devices for real-time frequency generation.
