Infineon Technologies AG further enhances the performance of its IGBTs with the introduction of the new S5 series. Based on the ultra-thin wafer TRENCHSTOP™ 5 IGBT, this new product family has been developed specifically for AC-DC power conversion devices for industrial equipment with switching frequencies up to 40kHz. This type of industrial equipment mainly includes photovoltaic inverters (PV) and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

This type of industrial equipment mainly includes photovoltaic inverters (PV) and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

     The S5 series devices meet manufacturers' needs to achieve system efficiency levels of no less than 98% to maximize solar panel power generation while reducing system costs. The new product range is more robust and of higher quality, helping end users extend the life of their equipment to 20 years. Overall, the newly launched IGBT product family can improve the energy efficiency of customers' products, improve their price competitiveness and durability.

     The new IGBT device can improve the switching performance of the system, reduce the complexity of the circuit design, and reduce the cost of the system by eliminating the need to install capacitors and Zener diodes. Normally, capacitors and Zener diodes are required for maximum energy efficiency and durability, but they are not required with the TRENCHSTOP 5 S5. In addition, the new device's surge current handling capability is increased by 25%, which further increases the durability and quality level of the device, giving customers more confidence in the robustness of their designs. At 175°C, the typical saturation voltage VCE(sat) of the newly introduced device is only 1.60 V, an industry low. As a result, the new devices maintain high energy efficiency even at high temperature operating conditions.
