Dialog introduces new Power converters

     Dialog Semiconductor, a supplier of highly integrated power management, AC/DC power conversion, charging and Bluetooth low-power technologies, announced the introduction of its latest power converter IC family, the DA9318, to complement its recently announced family of high-efficiency charging products. The DA9318 significantly improves fast charging efficiency and can meet the increasing battery charging requirements of today's latest smartphones. Combined with Dialog's RapidCharge AC/DC power conversion chipset, the DA9318 converter complements Dialog's wall-to-battery charging solution and delivers breakthrough high voltage direct charging efficiency.

     The key advantage of the DA9318 series is a conversion efficiency of up to 98%, which minimizes system power loss and heating, making compact consumer applications more secure. Unlike existing topologies that use low voltage and direct charging current through the cable, the design of the DA9318 series allows 6A charging current to be achieved using a standard 3A USB cable, which not only doubles power but also dramatically reduces the cost of fast charging applications by up to 35%. There are two products in the series: the DA9318L offers up to 8A charging current; The DA9318M offers up to 10A charging current. They support 35W and 44W charging power, respectively.

     This innovation is the first of its kind in the industry and is well suited to address the design challenges posed by the increasing battery capacity of today's smart devices. Currently, smartphone batteries are approaching 4,000 mAh in order to provide longer life to support greater computing power, and manufacturers are constantly looking for advanced charging solutions that can provide efficient, safe, and less heat. The DA9318 series contains comprehensive safety and protection features to ensure end-to-end system security, from portable power adapters to smartphone batteries.
