Ams introduces the new TMx4903 series of advanced optical sensor modules

     Ams introduces the new TMx4903 Series of advanced optical sensor modules that integrate universal remote control, barcode simulation, RGB color sensing, proximity sensing and 3D gesture detection in a package size of only 5.0x2.0x1.0mm.

     The highly integrated TMx4903 module reduces the need for board space size to meet the new features of today's smartphones while significantly reducing material costs. By integrating multiple optical sensing functions as well as an infrared LED, the TMx4903 module helps simplify the layout of the smartphone board, providing greater flexibility for system designers. The compact package also helps designers meet consumer demand for sleeker, thinner and more aesthetic smartphones.

     The TMD4903 and TMG4903 are the two main families of this module, enabling accurate color perception and proximity detection, and integrating an IR beam infrared mode generator. The infrared mode generator can emit infrared signals to control any consumer product that meets the standard. The Universal remote is also compatible with Android™ users and its infrared programming interface can be placed on a smartphone. Mobeam™ 1D barcode simulation also supports its application to retail point-of-sale (POS) terminal devices.

     The TMG4903 also offers the industry's most advanced non-contact infrared gesture sensing capability. ams' new 3D gesture recognition technology enables the device to recognize more complex gestures and complements ams' first-generation gesture sensor, the TMG3992, which can only recognize simple 2D gestures such as North-South and east-west.

     The TMx4903's new 3D gesture and proximity sensing capabilities automatically adjust with infrared LED timing and output power, reducing noise and power consumption while optimizing sensitivity and dynamic range. The TMx4903 contains innovative circuit technology that is protected from ambient light interference. Automatic calibration eliminates electronic noise and optical crosstalk. The integrated intelligent LED driver function eliminates the need to control the LED driver function through an application processor, greatly simplifying mobile software implementation and reducing the processing power required for instantaneous gesture recognition.
